The Motion Series
Move by Move. Moment by Moment.
Ages 8 - 11
Sign UpIn this series, students learn how to design movement, interaction and animation using code. Through hands-on projects, they explore core animation principles like squash and stretch, timing, acceleration, and collision. Along the way, they see how small changes create powerful results, build creative confidence, problem-solving skills, and the ability to think carefully about the moves they make on screen and beyond.

In this Series:
Lab 1
The Illusion of Movement
Students uncover how animation works by building simple frame-based sequences in code. By adjusting position, timing, and repetition, they see firsthand how small changes create the illusion of motion. This lab builds a strong foundation in sequencing, loops, and structured thinking.
Lab 2
Blob Can Jump
Great animation isn’t just about moving — it’s about believable movement. Students explore principles like squash and stretch to give objects weight and personality. Along the way, they experience how subtle adjustments can dramatically change how motion feels and learn about frame interpolation.
Lab 3
Timing & Acceleration
In this lab, students experiment with speed, pacing, and acceleration to shape how movement is perceived. They learn how easing in, speeding up, and slowing down can transform a simple animation into something dynamic and engaging. These projects strengthen their understanding of variables, iteration, and cause-and-effect.
Lab 4
Collisions & Reactions
Movement becomes more complex when objects begin to interact. Students design animations where sprites collide, bounce, and respond to one another using conditionals and logical rules. This lab deepens problem-solving skills while introducing the foundations of interactive systems.
Lab 5
Motion Studio Project (Part 1)
Students begin designing their own original animated or interactive project, applying the principles learned throughout the series. They brainstorm ideas, sketch plans, and start building a working prototype focusing on movement, timing, and interaction. This lab emphasizes planning, iteration, and thoughtful decision-making before refining the final details.
Lab 6
Motion Studio Project (Part 2)
In the final lab, students continue developing their studio project, refining motion, debugging interactions, and strengthening the overall experience. They practice revising their work move by move, improving clarity and impact. The series concludes with a presentation where students share their finished creations with families, showcasing both technical skill and creative growth.
